
Several students from the Berkeley Power and Energy Center (BPEC) have recently received department and campus awards for their academic achievements, research, and community contributions. The recipients and their respective honors are highlighted below:
Graduate student Emmi Wyttenbach received the 2026 Tong Leong Lim Pre-Doctoral Prize, awarded annually to EECS graduate students who achieve the highest scores on their preliminary examinations. Emmi is the first student from the Pilawa Group and the second BPEC-affiliated student to receive this distinction.
Graduate student Sourav Naval was awarded the Ross M. Tucker Memorial Award for his research on the characterization of novel piezoelectric materials. The award recognizes outstanding scholarship in semiconductor, magnetic, optical, and electronic materials research.
Graduate student Wentao Xu received the Demetri Angelakos Memorial Achievement Award, which honors students who demonstrate exceptional generosity, mentorship, and support of their peers beyond traditional research collaboration.
BPEC undergraduate student Ben Karish was awarded the Arthur M. Hopkin Award, presented annually to an outstanding Electrical Engineering undergraduate who exemplifies both academic excellence and seriousness of purpose.
